We were to present the ideas that we had come up with and the concept that we had settled on as a group. This way, we would be able to gain feedback in regards to the intention we had behind the brief and whether the concept would work.
After presenting our work, we got this feedback;
- It was a great, simple idea that has a good concept.
- Would be good for the course and would benefit our own contextual practise by encouraging us to look at current work whilst making it at the same time.
We were given this feedback to consider as well:
- Instead of just creating all the pages of a website, we need to produce something; maybe work with Tumblr or Wordpress
- Need to be able to measure how successful the blog is in regards to the viral aspect of the brief; how many people have visited the site and who have used it?
- Twitter Account- have 5 posts a day notifying people of the posts of the day on the blog?
- How can you take it further? What could we propose? - Could it be made into a supplement for creative review? Make into an app or website?
- How can you promote it and Attract the target audience- poster campaign and have physical sets for freshers week to give out?
After this Crit, we were given the opportunity to write our own brief for the next 2 weeks which would be relevant to what our group has proposed as a solution to the brief.
Written Up Group Brief |
Whilst I was writing the brief for our group, I wanted to show that it was direct enough to show what we would be doing but still quite open so that if we needed to add to anything then we could so we weren't restricted by the brief. I wrote it in the style that was replicated to that of a normal brief we would be given so that it would apply to all of us and would seem more professional and official.
Brief Crit:
Then we had to present the written Brief to our tutors so they had a copy of what we were doing. We discussed the name we had of the blog and the setting up of the blog, stating that there was a tester post before we would start it on the Tuesday officially.
Progress Crit 2:

Progress Crit 2:
We had to present our work as a group to 2 other groups and a tutor, showing what we had done so far and where we were going to go with it.
This is the feedback that we were given and thinks that we may need to consider:
- Are we going to continue using and making the blog once the brief is done?
- Keep pushing the brief as it can go further
- How can it become more interactive to the audience?
- How are you going to measure how success of the content of the brief?
- Maybe include our own work and other students work from Leeds College of Art?
- Ask people to contact us and submit content of their own? email us and provide info and jpegs?
- Ask audience to recommend some of their own things they have seen to submit onto the blog?
- Have features within the blog? Featured designer of the month/ content of the month?
As a group, we have decided to take some of these ideas and include them in our practise, particularly the idea of having people submit some of their own work. From this, we went towards moving to promoting the sites.
Final Crit:
For the final crit, we had to produce a presentation on our work and what we have been doing. Likewise, we had to sit through the other groups presentations and give them feedback. This presentation was to be given in front of the year group with questions at the end.
Given PowerPoint Presentation alongside Physical Promotional material and the Websites |
- Are we going to continue with the blog?- We are to see whether we can get any followers. depending on the amount of people who are interested as to whether we continue.
- Have we managed to get a lot out of it?- We've gained a larger scope on designers and studios out there as well as finding other design blogs and resources to work from so it has helped us expand our horizons.
- Some people in our course had seen it but a lot of people hadn't bothered to look. It would be good to have as a resource for them to have.
Self- Evaluation:
Then we had to fill in some questions on an evaluation sheet so we could reflect on the group brief as a whole.

Overall, I think we worked well as a group, more towards the end then at the beginning. A few of us were more involved than others but overall we managed to produce something which I'm very happy with and proud of the group for producing.
